Our mediation ethos
Our mediation ethos is underpinned by our work in education
We understand how stressful it can be to be involved in conflict, and we aim to help all parties in a dispute through the mediation process. We want to achieve results which are acceptable to everyone involved, and which produce the best possible outcomes for young people.
At Releasing Potential School we work with children with Special Educational Needs at our school sites, delivering alternative education to young people who have not flourished in mainstream settings.
We understand the tremendous stress placed on families whose relationships with school or the Local Education Authority have broken down, and we offer a professional and independent service to help resolve disputes via mediation in Hampshire and the surrounding areas. We do not work for any Local Authority, and any funds raised through our work in educational mediation are reinvested into Releasing Potential School.
We have really appreciated your team’s help with this […] We particularly appreciated how very quickly the team, together with Support4SEND, responded to our initial email, which was sent very late in the afternoon on the day before our time ‘ran out’ to apply for mediation/ appeal. The team has also been prompt, polite and very supportive in all of its communication with us, and I also appreciated your team reassuring us that this was an important matter and that it was worth following up. This has been particularly important as we’re aware that budgets (including paying for workers’ time to type up plans etc.) are increasingly tight and we are aware that many agencies are struggling to meet the needs of children with much more complex needs than [our son]. It’s very easy at the moment to be guilt-tripped into feeling that this means we ought to be grateful for what we do have, rather than ensuring that reports and plans etc. are accurate – which will hopefully be more cost-effective in the longer term. Thanks again and best wishes […]
“Kerry was really well-informed and made me feel at ease. I am not used to attending meetings and I was really frightened but the mediator made sure I got to have my say and I now have a good understanding of how to get what I need for my child…”
“I found mediation a constructive, easy process – useful to be able to discuss things, for each person to be able to ask questions and to clarify if necessary. Thank you for your time and support…I was especially pleased with your communication…I would certainly recommend you to parents seeking mediation in Hampshire”
“The process was very helpful from the point I self-referred all the way to the meeting itself. I was really worried before I spoke to the mediator, but for the first time in months I felt that somebody was listening to me, and although I didn’t get everything I wanted from the Local Authority, their representative did listen and I left feeling calmer, better informed and ready to take my appeal further…..”
