RYA Powerboat Levels 1 & 2

 

We offer Royal Yachting Association (RYA) powerboat certification via the RP Coastal Rowing Centre at Northney Marina.

We are a provider of high quality powerboat courses, with twenty years’ experience training learners of all ages and abilities. Learners are given a positive individual experience from booking through to course completion. We currently offer two RYA courses, Level 1 and Level 2.

Course Requirements

Minimum age for certification is 12 years, and endorsed certificates will be issued to learners between 12-15 years of age. Participants undertaking Level 2 may need to have completed Level 1 – please enquire for more details.

Course Aims

Once the course has been completed, learners will be self-sufficient in power boating in the right conditions, aware of their own limitations and of those of the craft.

Course Cost

Course costs are £225.00 Our powerboat course prices are inclusive of fuel, moorings, RYA handbooks (where applicable) and free use of waterproofs.

Level 1 Course Content

RYA Powerboat Level 1 is a one-day entry level course, and provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat under supervision.

Level 1 certification is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

The course focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course can be taken inland or on the coast and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly.

We will cover: launching and recovery, preparation of boat and crew, boat handling,  picking up and securing to a mooring buoy, leaving and coming alongside, and being towed.

Level 2 Course Content

RYA Powerboat Level 2 is a two-day entry level course, and provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat.

Level 2 certification is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. The course focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course can be taken inland or on the coast and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly.

We will cover: launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, and man overboard.

Prior knowledge of learning is not required, but the course may be taken directly after an RYA Powerboat Level 1 course.
